Artist's Statement
The whimsical and peculiar nature of tropical insects and rainforest inhabitants are the inspiration for Rachaels' current collection, 'Morpho'. Her array of wearables and silverware take on a life of their own through the use of playful pattern, leaning, curving forms and vibrant colour. Using a unique colouring technique, spun metal and traditional hand crafting, Rachael has created a playground of distinguishable creatures that can be viewed as standalone objects in their own right. Upon viewing, abstracted parts of the insect anatomy such as antennae, abdomen and skin pattern becomes apparent and are demonstrated in a truly illustrative and fictitious style.
The curiosities of each piece invite the wearer to play, laugh, enquire and delight themselves for a little while in Rachael's imaginary worl
