POLLY COLLINS

Artist's Statement

I am considering a world in which we are friends with our utensils, where we want to spend time with them and to nurture them; a place where we slow down a bit.

These speculative forms invite us to reflect on a different pace of living through their ambiguity in both material and function, sparking a conversation between user and object. The creature-like appearance of the vessels, as well as the different personalities and temperaments they have, will encourage this conversation to continue.

I work predominantly in sheet metal, yet treat it like textile; creating seams and gussets into soft forms. I am interested in challenging the expectations of a material; forming the cold and hard into something comforting and warm.
