NICK HUBBARD

My work

My wife and I began our workshop in 1978 from a smalll dickensian room in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter.  Here I spent many a year making tiny moving and opening charms and models for the jewellery trade.

Continuing this love of miniaturization into my own work, I produced my first jewellery collection in 1996, inspired by a love for small treasures of bought and found objects that Jean and I collect which are displayed at home in cabinets of curios.  I'm also inspired by unfolding stories of words, by songs that could be held and by films that move us from here to eternity.

Today we work from an old bakery in Staffordshire with our two miniature daschunds Tess and Lucy at our sides.

Outlets and exhibitions include: Ruthin Craft Centre, Museum of the Jewellery Quarter Birmingham, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Manchester Craft Centre, Insel Galerie Germany, The Steensons Belfast, Craft Council at the V&A Museum London.  Buyers include; Jill Murphy, Roddy Doyle, Sue Townsend, Frances de la Tour.
