JEAN SCOTT-MONCRIEFF

Artist’s statement

I am endeavouring to make beautiful jewellery to enhance the wearer - classical but contemporary - striving to find balance and proportion.

Design ethos - simplicity of shape and purity of line - a timeless quality - that will look good long into the future. I am influenced by artefacts from ancient Mediterranean cultures and admire the skills of their craftsmen from eons ago - particularly evident in the wonderful collection held at the Villa Guilia in Rome

My work is made using traditional techniques and hand tools; piercing, hammering and forging high-carat gold and silver, embellished with old-cut gemstones, cabachons and pearls. Each piece is hand worked using very fine emery papers resulting in a lustrous matt finish, sometimes with burnished edges.
