About Francesca Marcenaro

Francesca Marcenaro’s work is centred on the transformation of materials into sculptural objects for the body. Her jewellery investigates movement, light and surface, creating pieces that appear organic, tactile and in constant visual motion.

Rooted in the artistic and material culture of Italy, her practice combines traditional references with contemporary experimentation. She works with gold, silver, titanium, ebony, precious and semi-precious stones, often placing contrasting materials in dialogue: dark and reflective surfaces, precious metals and unconventional textures, polished forms and granular detail.

A defining element of her work is Glass Granulation, a technique she developed in 2004. Inspired by the ancient traditions of granulation and enamelling, the process uses glass granules to create luminous, textured surfaces with a soft and distinctive sparkle. In Francesca’s pieces, surface is not treated as decoration, but as an essential part of the structure, identity and emotional presence of the jewel.

Her jewellery is experimental in technique and material language, yet remains grounded in the body. Even larger pieces are designed to be wearable and balanced, combining sculptural presence with comfort and practical elegance.

Francesca’s work has been exhibited internationally and is held in the permanent collection of the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas in Madrid, placing her research within the field of contemporary jewellery, material innovation and the decorative arts.
