CAROLYN LANDALE

Carolyn Landale

About Carolyn Landale

Carolyn is an artist, designer, and jeweller whose work is rooted in an enduring fascination with rhythm and repetition—themes that have shaped her creative journey through architectural design, fine art, and contemporary jewellery. Drawing upon her background in design and the visual arts, she explores the interplay between structure and fluidity, precision and spontaneity, inspired by both the ordered patterns of urban environments and the organic rhythms of nature.

Each piece combines a recycled silver framework with forms composed of hundreds, often thousands, of meticulously folded and interlocked layers of paper. Through this intricate and labour-intensive process, Carolyn creates richly textured surfaces that evoke movement, transformation, and the passage of time. Materiality lies at the heart of her practice, with carefully selected papers chosen for their strength and refined surface quality, sourced from suppliers committed to responsible environmental practices.

Situated between art, design, and adornment, her jewellery brings together conceptual enquiry and meticulous craftsmanship, resulting in works that are both visually compelling and thoughtfully resolved.
Carolyn holds a BA (Hons) in Industrial Design from Manchester, studied Painting at Central Saint Martin’s School of Art, and completed an MA in Fine Art in London. Her professional career has encompassed design, architecture, and education, including positions with leading architectural practices GMW Partnership and Building Design Partnership (BDP). She later became founder partner of Axis Design Europe, a practice specialising in interior architecture and design for major commercial clients, while also teaching as a sessional lecturer in the Department of Interior Architecture at the Kent Institute of Art and Design.

In 2022, Carolyn received an award at Milan Jewellery Week. Her work has been exhibited at La Gal Effe, Rome; The Fab, Artistar Jewels, Milan; Turner Contemporary, Margate and The Forge Space, London.
