Dazzle has now opened at the National Theatre on the South Bank for our annual Christmas exhibition of jewellery, silversmithing and printmaking from 5th November 2012 to 6th January 2013.The two opening parties were very well attended and resulted in many sales.  The two lucky prize draw winners were Patricia Rees and Joan Sheppard. We wish them happy shopping. Opening times for the exhibition will be 9.30 to 10pm Monday to Saturday . We will be open on Sundays 2,9,16 December and 6 January -12 to 6pm. Closed 23-25 December. Boxing day we open at 4pm to 22.00. New Year's Eve we close at 6pm and New Year's day we open at 4pm to 22.00.Direct telephone number 0207 4523003. New Designers

This year we have a very vibrant batch of recent graduates from a diverse range of colleges, including Edinburgh College of Art, Glasgow School of Art, Central St Martins and Birmingham. There will be a wide range of materials in show, reflecting the need by young designers to find alternatives to highly priced precious metals.

Recent graduates: Sharon Adams, Rachael Brame, Scarlett Cohen-French, Kirstin Dunn, Miya Hayes, Robyn McLean, Justine Richards, Rebecca Vigers, Stephanie Walton, Deme Wolfe-Power and Crisina Zani.

As well as recent graduates, we also welcome Hannah Bedford, Jed Green and Elizabeth Humble to their first Dazzle Exhibitions.

Three Printmakers

Our three printmakers this year are Emiko Aida, Aimee Birnbaum and Nina Zelenko. Emiko, from Jindaiji, Tokoyo, now lives in London. Her work is exhibited in galleries throughout the UK, USA and Japan. Aimee Birnbaum is a New Yorker, now based in London, with studios in London and  Tuscany.Living by the Regents Canal and working by the river Thames has impacted on her imagination and in this exhibition she will be showing the etching series TIme and the River, depicting familiar London landmarks in an unfamiliar way. Our third printmaker is Nina Zelenko from Ljubljann, Slovenia. Her etchings are inspired by her love of nature and the natural world. She trained in Ljubljann and Berlin and she has exhibited all over the world.

Designers

JANE ADAM

 

Jane Adam is a leading figure in British contemporary crafts, with an international reputation for her jewellery in dyed aluminium, a field in which she revolutionised contemporary practice. Her recent work in precious metals is now gaining her even greater recognition. Her work can be seen in some twenty major public collections, including those of the Goldsmiths’ Company; Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; Crafts Council, London; and the Cooper Hewitt Museum of Design, New York, as well as being worn by her many collectors in Britain and abroad.

SHARON ADAMS

Brighton-based maker using wood and metal to create hand-held sculptural tools. Natural woods gathered from Sussex woodlands sit alongside silver, copper and steel.

EMIKO AIDA

 

Emiko Aida is a printmaker and painter from Jindaiji, Tokyo. She lives in London and is a member of Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and South Bank Printmakers. Her work is exhibited in galleries throughout the UK, USA and Japan and in many collections including the New York Public Library, USA and the Guangdong Museum of Art, China.

 

MARIANNE ANDERSON

Glasgow. Precious metals including precious and semi-precious stones specialising in rings. Worked with top textile designer Tomoko Hayashi. Outlets include : Aaron Faber, New York; Design Yard, Dublin; Electrum, London; The Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh; Flow Gallery, London; Mobilia Gallery, Massachusetts and Orro, Glasgow.

ALAN ARDIFF

Dublin. Silver and gold. Major international name. Commissions include for "Riverdance"; Eurovision Song Contest & Dublin Regional Authority. In the collection of Billy Connolly, the Danish Embassy & Arthur Anderson. Exhibitions and outlets include Electrum, London and Rubicon Gallery, Dublin. Exhibited in Jewellery Moves, National Museums of Scotland, Edinburgh.

ALENA ASENBRYL

Manchester. Uses various materials including textiles, plastics and mixed metals. Outlets include Manchester Craft & Design Centre (her own gallery), Lesley Craze, London, The Harley Gallery, Worksop, Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester & the Craft & Design Centre, Leeds.

HANNAH BEDFORD

 Hannah Bedford designs and makes a wide range of women’s jewellery, in silvers and golds. Each piece is handcrafted from her studio at Cockpit Arts Deptford, in the hub of south London’s creative community.

STACEY BENTLEY

Stacey is an Edinburgh based jeweller. Her work experiments with vitreous enamel combined with iron, steel, semi-precious stones and precious metals. She explores new possibilities that enamel can bring to contemporary jewellery challenging its initial preconceptions.

AIMEE BIRNBAUM

Aimee Birnbaum RI is a painter and printmaker with studios in London and Tuscany. Both these places are a great source of inspiration for her. She takes interest in the strange, the uncanny the magical and the mysterious. The alchemy of etching fascinates her; she feels there is an unseen force which breathes life into the image.
Living on the Regents Canal and working by the River Thames has impacted on her imagination. The etching series Time and the River depicts familiar London landmarks mixed with the ghosts of the Lost London.

 

ALICE BO-WEN CHANG

 Alice Bo-Wen Chang is an Edinburgh based, Taiwanese / US jewellery artist, designer and architect. She explores the transformation between two-dimensional surfaces and three-dimensional sculptural objects through creative means of modules and patterns. Her interdisciplinary and multi-cultural experience is what makes her work unique.
