Artist's statement
THIS IS PEWTER is born from Ella's love of Pewter and all its characteristics, discovered whilst studying for a first class honours Silversmithing degree at Buckinghamshire University.
Now working from her studio at Manchester Craft and Design Centre, specialising in Pewter, Ella enjoys pushing the boundaries of this lead and tarnish free versatile metal using traditional metalwork skills alongside her modern design style to create functional home and table ware items, often combining textures within her pieces.
Ella is endlessly fascinated and inspired by Pewter, its history within our culture, using stripped back embelishment free design to celebrate the making processes she uses. Often inspired by the clash of tactile surfaces around the Urban landscape, this reflection of textures is a common theme throughout Ella's work.
