MIYA HAYES

Artist's Statement

My jewellery is inspired by forms found in nature. I am drawn to the organic and irregular patterns of plants and seeds, the way they repeat to create intricate and delicate structures. The growth of seeds into plants is very interesting and the stages of development they go through. I document this process through photography.

I draw inspiration from creatures under the sea; the movement that takes place with the current of the water is beautiful and creates interesting shapes. The bright and vibrant colours are also influential in my work. Red is a very striking colour, it highlights certain parts in my jewellery and makes it stand out.

I enjoy using a combination of materials in my work especially resin, I like the way it brings in colour and a different texture to metal. In my pieces I enjoy using repetitive techniques to create components which I then build up into organic structures.
