Artist’s statement

Lesley is a British jeweller specialising in the use of cellulose acetate (derived from cotton oil) combined with sterling silver. Her passion for designing and making jewellery started in 1976 at The City Literary Institute, London. Since then she has continued to evolve and develop her personal style. Lesley’s inspiration predominantly comes from weathered, natural forms although her latest work has been influenced by the sculptures of the 1950's. Once the common sculptural language of the pieces has been defined, the final finish becomes vitally important to her as she needs the wearer to have a very tactile relationship with her work. The methods Lesley uses are traditional jewellery techniques coupled with both industrial processes and ones of her own invention such as hand thermo-forming.
