Artist's statement
Emily is an award-winning contemporary jeweller whose work combines a minimal aesthetic with blocks of colour and clusters of detail.
Inspired by repetition and small details (from spots on the pavement to stripy steps at a railway station), Emily uses her sketchbook to draw designs, shapes and compositions. These then develop further as she works intuitively with the materials. Working with wood, laminate, silver and more Emily makes one of a kind pieces and small limited editions. The process and act of making is really important and each piece is made by hand in her London studio. For example, the laminate and wood is hand pierced, sanded and then waxed for a beautifully smooth finish.
Emily studied (BA Hons) Three Dimensional Craft at the University of Brighton, followed by postgraduate training at Bishopsland Education Trust.
