My Work
I work mainly in silver and semi precious stones, and gain my influences in both ancient and modern ethnic cultures, combined with more contemporary techniques. I am particularly interested in the mechanics of catches and clasps, trying to find ways to integrate them into a design, as a thing of function and beauty.
While I make jewellery to be worn in traditional ways, I am also exploring more sculptural, one-off art pieces, that can be shown in a number of ways both on and off the body.
I also make various decorative but functional pieces, such as salt and pepper pots, spoons and pen holders.
My main aim is to eventually design and make unique pieces so that no two pieces are the same. I am in the process of this now and even though some pieces are similar in appearance, the patterning on the surface is always different from piece to piece. This is acheived with a rolling mill technique that I have develped into a style of my own.
