Artist's Statement
My work is concerned with the fragments of memories which remain in our minds long after the experience has passed. Half remembered - half forgotten.
The ever changing Scottish natural environment is a constant source of ideas for my printmaking practice, whether it is a woodland, coastal or riverside location. The structure and drama of the natural habitat, particularly in winter, is a constant source of inspiration.
Using a variety of techniques, including location sketching, photography and monoprinting, I form the images into separate elements for the screenprinting process in my studio in Dundee which overlooks the River Tay. This allows the development of ideas, which are never a literal translation of the subject, in a manner which, I hope, captures the essence of the subject and a transitory moment in time. I create the screenprints and screenprinted collages at Dundee Contemporary Arts Printmaker's studio using a limited palette of colours and imagery.
